Forest was formed in 1992 by Vinny Monaco and Jim Kovalcik solely to create original music. Jim has a B.A. in Music Theory and Composition from the State University of New York at Binghamton. His main musical interest is jazz. A former music teacher in the Virgin Islands, he has played saxophone, flute, and guitar in many groups in upstate New York, St. Thomas, U.S.V.I., and the Washington D.C. area. In Forest Jim plays the flute.
 
 

Vinny's roots are in folk, country, and rock music. He plays guitar, saxophone, keyboard, and mandolin. He has performed in coffee houses, rock and folk clubs in New York, North Carolina, and Florida. In Forest Vinny plays synthesizer and sings.
 
 

For the last five years Forest has been playing at book store cafes throughout Palm Beach, and Broward Counties. All the music is original and has been written by either Jim, Vinny, or both together; and is best described as a blend of New Age and Jazz.
